Insider tips for relaxed moments of indulgence

Have you ever heard of chiringuitos? If not, it’s time, because these distinctive beach bars are an integral part of Spanish culture. According to the Real Academia Española, chiringuitos are kiosks or outdoor drink stands. In German, they are often translated as “snack stands” or “beach bars”.
The history of chiringuitos goes back to 1913, when the first one opened in Sitges, a charming seaside resort near Barcelona. Interestingly, the term “chiringuito” is said to have originated in Cuba, where it was used to order a coffee preparation. However, the idea of these laid-back beach bars quickly found its way to Spain and became an important part of beach culture there. Today, we’d like to introduce you to five chiringuitos in Mallorca that you definitely shouldn’t miss. Because what awaits you here is not your usual snack stand 😉

1. Can Gavella – Playa de Muro

Chiringuitos in Mallorca
This enchanting place exudes the authentic flair of summer in Mallorca and has been a true highlight for locals and visitors alike for four decades. Located directly by the Casetes dels Capellans in the north of the island, Can Gavella attracts gourmets from all over the world.
The recipe for success of this culinary jewel consists of a magical atmosphere, fair prices, loyal regulars and, of course, the irresistible paellas. Other dishes also delight guests’ palates, such as the traditional “Gall de Sant Pere”, succulent grilled squid, tender roasted octopus or the fresh catch of the day. The variety of specialties leaves nothing to be desired. Yet without a doubt, the absolute crowning glory is the mysterious “Paella Mixta”. Its sophisticated blend of secret spices and the exquisite rice from Sa Pobla make it an unforgettable taste experience.

The venue captivates with charming décor featuring elegant baskets and gentle melodies in the background. On Saturdays, the atmosphere is further enhanced by the sound of a talented DJ who transports guests into a world of enjoyment and relaxation.
The story of Can Gavella began back in 1976 and was taken over in 1987 by the Perelló-Gelabert family. The family’s close bond is reflected in the loving care of the guests, who are welcomed here like long-time friends. Especially on August weekends, we recommend reserving a table in good time.

2. ‘El Chiringuito’ – Costa de la Calma

In the glow of the radiant sun and the carefree sea breeze, “El Chiringuito”, located in Costa de la Calma (southwest), comes into bloom. This isn’t all about pomp and luxury. There is no exclusive music selection by famous DJs or elaborate craftsmanship. Instead, what awaits us is a harmonious melody of people chatting, the sound of the sea, and the cheerful laughter of the young waiter team.
People of all kinds of backgrounds gather here to share the pleasure of being in a setting where plastic tableware is everywhere—going barefoot is part of the familiar scene, and glass or ceramics would be completely out of place.

The food is an ode to simplicity and yet delicious. You’ll find neither extravagant carpaccio dishes nor exquisite fish or unusual creations. Instead, refreshing salad platters, homemade salmorejo, or a tasty pizza are served. My personal favorite is the pamboli, a treat made with Mallorcan bread combined with juicy ramellet tomatoes and accompanied by Menorca cheese, hearty Serrano ham, or delicate tuna. Or you can opt for crispy slices of sobrasada, which you pick up at the bar with a pinch of sugar.
All these delights are framed by the breathtaking view of the gentle sea, which offers us its warm waves while we relax in comfortable loungers or daringly jump from the rocks into the refreshing water. And not to forget the enchanting sunset, which immerses the sky in a richly colored painting.
The “Chiringuito de la Costa de la Calma” is open daily from March to November from 11 a.m. until midnight.

3. Cas Patro March – Cala Deià

Chiringuitos in Mallorca
In a secluded corner of Mallorca’s enchanted island, a jewel lies hidden, well worth discovering: Ca’s Patró March, a paradise for the senses and culinary pleasure. Here, where the Mediterranean reveals its treasures, the lobster is caught on the glowing dance floor of the grill and dances with the delicate aromas of Mediterranean herbs. It is accompanied by tempting crispy potatoes and a fresh salad melody that perfectly rounds off the taste experience.
This restaurant-chiringuito is a hideaway for gourmets, far from the luxurious frills that often conceal the beauty of such a touristy island. A wooden refuge, cleverly built between rock and sea, offers guests breathtaking views of the enchanted alliance of majestic mountains and gentle waves.
The journey to Ca’s Patró March is like an adventure, because it is no easy task to reach this place. Hidden among the old fishermen’s houses, wood-supported terraces welcome guests, almost as if they wanted to merge with the sea. The purpose is clear: guests are meant to experience the catch of the day up close, a selection proudly presented in a glass display case and sung about on the menu by an enthusiastic in-house team.
Amid the hustle and bustle of high summer, Ca’s Patró March attracts locals and international travelers every day. A culinary adventure that can be rewarded with a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear water. And when the feast harmonizes with the golden sunset, the view from this rock or stretch of beach on the Mallorcan coast becomes an almost overwhelming experience. Some even dare to arrive by boat and anchor in the bay of Cala Deià.
The menu at Ca’s Patró March knows no routine. Like the tides of the sea, it varies depending on the treasures the day brings. The grill-kissed supreme discipline is undoubtedly the fish—ranging from artfully prepared dentons to fiery cap roigs, all the way to the mysterious raóns and majestic pargos. A dance of the senses that continually reinvents itself depending on the fishing season and closed seasons.

Among the sea creatures, the lobster is the undisputed star, presenting itself on the stage of indulgence together with its followers, the grilled prawns. Another option is a seafood and fish grill platter, seducing the palate with its variety.
As a prelude to the maritime delicacies, Ca’s Patró March serves Mallorcan “tumbet”, a vegetable experience of a special kind. Raw and refined with Mediterranean sounds, eggplants, potatoes, green peppers, onions, and ripe tomatoes dance together in culinary rhythm.
The prices for this culinary journey to paradise range between 25 and 40 euros per ticket. A feast for all the senses, in which flavor makes the heart beat faster in time with Mediterranean passion.

4. S’Embat – Es Trenc

S'Embat
S’Embat was born in 2005 as a small “chiringuito” on Mallorca’s south coast, with the simple goal of becoming a place where you can feel free and escape everyday life. Without a presence on social networks, without marketing plans or advertising campaigns, people became aware of the venue naturally and began to share it with one another until it became their own place.
At this venue, you can enjoy grilled meat or ‘pa amb oli’ in an enchanting atmosphere, right next to the most paradisiacal beach on the island, while listening to the changing performances of the artists at night, all of whom contribute their enchanting part to this special atmosphere.
Artists, locals, and international guests become a kind of family with every visit and ambassadors of this place, which goes beyond leisure, business, and brand—it’s about a feeling.
It is Mallorca and it belongs to its people; it embodies the spirit and essence of the island that visitors from other parts of the world want to get to know. Thanks to the people who love this place, S’Embat has gained a presence in national and international media and has established itself year after year as one of the best “chiringuitos” in Spain.
There are places that enchant us the moment we step inside. Places that leave an unforgettable impression during our vacation. Places we wish to return to one day. Magical places whose existence we had no notion of until the moment we discovered them.
And S’Embat is one of those enchanting points on the map that shines in its own right.
S'Embat Show
With its hippie décor, its carefully curated event program, and its heavenly joy, S’Embat has become, over more than fifteen years, a musical hotspot of the Mallorcan summer. Located at the entrance to Ses Covetes, this small oasis is a source of entertainment and revitalization for many, and for others a spiritual refuge.
From the end of May to mid-October, this magical place offers an artistic haven for all those looking for live-music afternoons and evenings in Mallorca, jam sessions, jazz, funk, circus performances, magicians, stand-up comedy, children’s entertainment, and ultimately a day full of fun and entertainment at the beach.

5. Sa Foradada – Tramuntana

Na Foradada
An impressive, perforated rock rises majestically in the middle of the sea. Sa Foradada is the name of this fascinating natural phenomenon, yet it is far more than just a spectacular sight. It is a place full of magic, rich in history, and an inexhaustible source of inspiration for artists, musicians, and writers from all eras.
The legends surrounding this unique rock revolve around a shootout that is said to have taken place in 1582 between 150 pirates and only 50 Christian defenders. Whether this tale corresponds to the truth remains uncertain to this day. What is certain, however, is that this striking rock—whether shaped by a natural phenomenon or human intervention—has become one of the island’s most significant attractions. Its characteristic hole, called “forat” in Mallorcan, gives it the name “Na Foradada” (the perforated one).
Every day, countless cameras capture this impressive image to preserve it for eternity. A visit is undoubtedly worthwhile. Na Foradada lies between the beautiful beaches of Cala Deià and Caló de s’Estaca. From the viewing platform of the Son Marroig estate, once owned by Archduke Luis Salvador, this breathtaking sight can be captured best. The road that leads from Valldemossa to Deià through the Sierra also offers an impressive journey through the picturesque landscape. Visiting both places is equally recommended and completes the experience.
Sa Foradada view
Once at the top, a charming restaurant and a beach bar await you, offering the opportunity to eat and drink in this privileged setting. The chiringuito, as the beach bar is called in Spanish, invites you to enjoy the beauty of the place to the fullest. Alternatively, there is the option to take an excursion to Na Foradada from Son Marroig (for an entrance fee). This beautiful path is open to everyone and leads you directly to the destination.
It is hard to recommend a specific time of day to experience this spectacular balcony of the Sierra de Tramuntana, as the changing light continually highlights the rock’s magic anew. Sunset is particularly popular, when you can watch the sun slowly bid farewell into the sea and gently bring the day to a close.
