The location

Santa Catalina – Es Jonquet

Santa Catalina is located immediately west of the Old Town and was one of the first neighborhoods outside the former city walls. Low houses, colorful façades, small balconies, and a dense network of streets still give the area an almost village-like scale—right in the middle of Palma.

The heart of the neighborhood is the Mercat de Santa Catalina. The historic market hall supplies residents and the hospitality sector with fresh produce and shapes the daily rhythm of the surrounding area. Numerous cafés, restaurants, bakeries, and small shops are located around it. During the day, Santa Catalina feels neighborly and busy; in the evening, noticeably livelier.

On the seaward side, Es Jonquet adjoins. The small historic quarter sits elevated above the Paseo Marítimo and is characterized by its low fishermen’s houses, narrow paths, and old windmills. Car traffic is heavily restricted, which makes Es Jonquet surprisingly quiet despite its immediate proximity to Santa Catalina and the harbor.

Both neighborhoods are exceptionally central. Born, La Llotja, the harbor, and the Old Town are within walking distance; at the same time, there are good connections to other parts of Palma. The limited street space, restricted parking options, and the lively dining scene are part of the location and should be considered when choosing an apartment.

The property offering consists mainly of apartments, townhouses, and converted commercial spaces. Original façades, high ceilings, interior courtyards, and roof terraces are particularly attractive, but the structural condition can vary greatly. In Es Jonquet, the selection is very small; in Santa Catalina, a single street often determines peace and quiet, light, and atmosphere. For urban living with a distinct identity, both rank among Palma’s most characterful locations.
